Concord Orientation Rides
If you would like to attend a Wednesday 6PM or Saturday morning orientation ride to become accustomed to group cycling, contact Eugene at 603-224-9727.
His guidance helps participants with pre-ride preparation, proper shifting, safe cycling, and rules of the road. The rides build confidence among beginner / casual cyclists. If, during the phone conversation, Eugene concludes that you would benefit from a different mentor, he will connect you to that person!

Now to Concord Area Ride Leading
Wednesday Rides:
An important part of the success of the Concord Wednesday summer rides is the many leaders available. Please consider helping out by volunteering to lead.
It would be ideal to again have five or six leaders each Wednesday to cover many speed categories. While it is easiest to have Wednesday leaders commit for each Wednesday of a month, feel free to volunteer for just a Wednesday or two or three.
Calvin Dowling has stepped forward to organize Wednesday ride leaders. His contact information is below.
Saturday Rides:
A “long list of leaders” is created for the Saturday rides, and there is no need for leaders to make date commitments. Contact Cathy to let her know you are willing to be on the list.
Ride Leading:
Experienced leaders are welcome as well as new ones. New leaders will be provided support, advice and route sheets. Leaders are needed in all speed/distance/intensity categories. It is important that cyclists desiring a speed category covered by a leader volunteer themselves to lead a few times during the season. That is very helpful!
Pot Luck Gathering:
All committed leaders will be invited to the spring Pot Luck Ride Leader Gathering to visit, pick up helpful materials, and enjoy excellent food!
Pedal Talk Notices:
Cathy will prepare the ride notices for Pedal Talk.

Early Start Times on Saturdays
In response to fall survey, the Concord Saturday rides will begin at 9am in May and 8am in June, July, August.
Please notice start times in the ride descriptions so we can all depart together on Saturdays!
Turtle Leaders Needed!
If you are a Turtle (especially), relatively slow, or moderate cyclist and you can commit to leading Turtle riders for even only one Wednesday this summer or some Saturday mornings, it would be appreciated. It is important to support and encourage all cyclists! Leaders unfamiliar with the area can choose from a variety of cue sheets to help guide their group on an appropriate ride.
We need some willing leaders to step forward and help out! Please consider sharing in the responsibilities of ride leading. It is rewarding!

Saturday Century Rides – Concord
SMC’s: Saturday Morning Centuries will resume from the Concord DOT parking lot at 8AM this summer. Because of improved leader planning this year, I have established a schedule in advance:
May 31 st , June 21 st , July 26 th , August 30 th , September 27 th , October ?
Rhodes’ Typical Disclaimers:
Pace: Typically 16-17mph average with stops about every 2-2½ hours for refills of liquids and other fuel.
Fuel: I HIGHLY encourage you to start with at least a few bars and gels and suggest not waiting for the first stop to start eating.
Weather: If it is raining at the start of the day, I will be staying home. If it starts raining during the ride we can decide as a group what to do.
Maintenance: Bring (at the very least) a spare tube and patch kit. I have
ample bike repair experience to share, but I don't relish the idea of having to supply companions with my stuff! J
Good News: The group will not drop people. This is not a hammer ride. We will regroup every so often if companions fall behind.
A Reward: I am working on an end-of-the season surprise for those doing at least half the rides with me.
Please don't hesitate to contact me with questions.
