Of Interest to Concord Cyclists
Commit Now to Concord Area Ride Leading
Wednesday Rides: Having many helpful leaders is an important part of the success of the well-attended Concord Wednesday evening rides. Please consider helping out by volunteering to lead.
It would be ideal to again have five or six leaders each Wednesday to cover many speed categories. While it is easiest to have Wednesday leaders commit for each Wednesday of a month, it is okay for you to lead a Wednesday or two or three, and it is helpful to have leaders committed in advance. Calvin Dowling is again willing to organize Wednesday ride leaders. His contact information is below.
Saturday Rides: A “long list of leaders” is created for the Saturday rides, and there is no need for leaders to make date commitments. Contact Cathy (info below) to let her know you are willing to be on the list.
Ride Leading: Experienced leaders are welcome as well as new ones. New leaders will be provided support, advice and route sheets. Leaders are needed in all speed/distance/intensity categories. It is important that cyclists desiring a speed category covered by a leader volunteer themselves to lead a few times during the season.
Pedal Talk Notices: Cathy is willing to prepare the ride notices for Pedal Talk.

Turtle Leaders Needed!
Can you commit to leading Turtle riders for even only one Wednesday this coming summer? It is an important way to support and encourage these cyclists! Leaders unfamiliar with the area can choose from a variety of cue sheets to help guide their group on an appropriate route.

Contacts to List in Pedal Talk Ride Notices
If you are willing to be listed in a Pedal Talk ride notice as a “contact” please let me know. A contact is not necessarily a leader. A contact is simply willing to respond to inquiries about GSW rides and encourage cycling and participation in rides, especially to potential new GSW members.

Young Newcomer Leaders Needed!
Late in the fall I became aware of the possible need for a leader to guide young cyclists on orientation rides on spring/summer 2010 rides, especially on Saturdays. It might be ideal to guide the group down Airport Road and left into the flat professional office park where traffic is light. I would be willing to commit to doing that some Saturdays this summer. I contemplate leading the group (maybe with another leader/companion so we can lead and sweep) out on a short, leisurely excursion, returning the youth to the lot, and heading out on a short ride to get a little more exercise myself.
This would be an opportunity to guide, encourage, and support younger cyclists. If you are willing to consider it too, please let me know.

Early Start Times from Concord on Saturdays
Please contact me offering your opinion about Concord Saturday ride start times. Whoever prepares the notices needs to know whether or not last year’s schedule should be repeated: 8 AM in July and August.
