General Ride Information
General
Info -- Club activities are open to anyone interested in bicycling.
Parental consent is required for those under 18 years old.
Club rides are categorized and listed in Pedal Talk as recurring,
non-recurring, invitational, charity, or weekend activities. Rides are
listed as on-road, off-road, or Show-and-Go. Show-and-Go rides have unscheduled
routes. Most rides have leaders who offer maps or cue sheets. GSW rides
are usually not arrowed. In case of rain, most rides will be cancelled
or rescheduled. If in doubt or if you have any questions, call the ride
leader.
The leader and the riders for Show-and-Go rides select the route and the
pace is expected to be at the pace of the slowest rider. Newcomer rides
are denoted with a smiley face. The codes with mileage, pace, and terrain
of each ride are listed below. A 2-L-16 ride code means the ride has easy
grades at a leisurely pace for 16 miles.
Courtesy Recommendations --
Rides start on schedule. Please have your bicycle in good working order.
Always carry on your bike a spare tube, tire levers, a patch kit, a pump,
water, snacks, and emergency numbers.
Helmets are required.
Volunteer -- If you don't
find a ride you like, then volunteer to become a ride leader. Call the
ride coordinators for more information. Ride
Leader Guidelines may be viewed on-line or downloaded then printed
via a PDF file.
Ride leaders must be GSW members.
Charity Rides -- Charity riders are welcomed at all GSW rides.
Let the ride leader know you're in training for a Charity Ride!
Invitational
Rides
-- Events sponsored by area bike clubs and organizations,
but not for charity fund raising.
Mileage
Tracking --
All GSW, charity, and invitational rides listed in Pedal Talk and this
web site are recorded for recognition at our annual banquet in November.
Please see the Ride Credit
Guidelines for more information.
Liability
Release --
A form is to be signed by both members and guest cyclists before starting
any ride. The form also serves the purpose of recording club mileage.
Ride leaders should provide the form for all ride participants to sign.
Downloadable PDF versions are available for both on-road
and off-road rides.
