Belated Announcement for Portsmouth Area Riders Going into the cold, looking forward to spring, it would be nice to have a get-together so the Portsmouth Wednesday Night Riders can socialize in the heart of winter. So let’s meet at the Redhook Brewery, at the Pease International Tradeport, on Friday, 17 February, at 6:00 p.m. Soft drinks, beer, dinner, or just talk - whatever.
Starting on November 1, Salem-area GSW members and guests are encouraged to meet twice a month through the winter on the first and third Tuesdays, 6:00 PM, at the Route 97 House of Pizza, 11 Ayers Village Road, Methuen MA. The shop is located beside Dunkin’ Donuts and is the starting point for all Tuesday evening leisurely rides in Methuen, just across the street from Salem. Reservations are not required, but if severe weather or travel conditions you might call Dave Topham at 603.898.9926 to learn if the pizza party is on or off. For less than $5.00, you can eat, have a few laughs, and swap some stories. Bring a friend along and join our informal little party!
New Year’s Day Ride “A Must-Call-Ahead-to-Confirm Ride” Again, there will be a GSW Concord New Year’s Day On-Road Ride. The ride will depart from the DOT parking lot on Hazen Drive and it will also be listed in the January / February Pedal Talk. Directions can also be found in this issue of Pedal Talk within the Saturday 10:30am Concord ride description. In addition to leader guidance, there will be cue sheets on hand for 10 (flat), 18, 21, and 30 mile rides. Ask about a potential gathering at a local eatery after the ride. If road conditions prohibit cycling and dictate snowshoeing, we could opt for such a workout so call a contact to check that out. Ride Organizers: Tim Ainsworth Cell: 603-493-3731 tdainsworth04@gmail.com Orientation Rides - Concord If you would like to attend orientation rides on Saturday mornings to become accustomed to group cycling, contact Eugene at 603-219-2051. Eugene helps cyclists with pre-ride preparation, group coordination, proper shifting, safe cycling, and rules of the road. The rides build confidence among beginner / casual group cyclists. If, during the phone conversation, Eugene concludes that you would benefit from a different mentor/leader, he will make a recommendation.

Learning the Rules of the Road after 40 years on a bike was enlightening. Knowing how to survive among the crazy drivers is key to having a fun time on a bicycle, and now I'm a step closer to helping others learn the same.
