Volunteer Opportunities
Do
you wish to help?
The Granite
State Wheelmen, formed in 1971, is operated strictly by volunteers
who enjoy bicycling and wish others to join us in this popular sport.
We appreciate constructive suggestions, will try to correct errors, and
we're always looking for new ideas. Better yet, we welcome volunteers
who share our enthusiasm for bicycling and are willing to help make things
happen by contributing their time and expertise. For more information
about volunteer opportunities within the GSW, please write, call, e-mail,
or contact any Board member.
Opportunities
abound!
Volunteering at the Seacoast Century
We are now gearing up for the 2010 Seacoast Century. Many people have already signed up to ride and we will most likely reach full capacity by August. What makes this event run smoothly and keeps riders coming back? It’s the Volunteers!!!
I would like to thank all of the volunteers that have signed up for 2010 and in the past. Also, a big thanks to all the bike shops that provided mechanical support services during the 2009 ride: Nault’s, Goodale’s , Gus’s, Bicycle Bob’s, Buchika’s, S& W Sports, and Eastern Mountain Sports.
As our ride continues to grow in popularity, we need more volunteers to keep it going.
I’m sure many of you who have volunteered in the past would agree that it is wonderfully satisfying to see grateful riders enjoying the day. We all know what it feels like to have a great ride experience too. Something else to consider is that much of the money raised during this ride is being donated for bike trail development in several NH communities ($25,000 this year)
There are also many other benefits for volunteering.
1. Free registration for the ride.
2. Two tee shirts – Volunteer and ride shirts.
3. No registration line to wait in if you’re riding in the morning.
4. If you’d like to ride both days, there are volunteer opportunities prior to and after the event
You’ll get to meet fantastic people.
Volunteer Details: 4-5 hour shifts; Saturday or Sunday; some slots available the day before/after the ride.
Hampton Beach State Park :
6am-11am , 6:30am-12pm, 12-5pm (Duties include directing parking, registration, selling merchandise, making peanut butter sandwiches, putting out food, sag wagon driver)
Fort McClary State Park – Kittery Point, ME; 8am-12pm, 12pm-4pm (Duties include making peanut butter sandwiches, putting out food, filling water/Gatorade jugs, sag wagon driver.)
Life is busy!! But, if you do have some time, consider volunteering at the SCC!! So, if you can help out….
Please contact me at Jeanspeech@aol.com or 434-4011. Let me know what day/time/ place you’d like to volunteer. Provide you’re full name, a phone number, and the tee shirt size you’d like.
Happy and Safe cycling to all!
Jean Manning (Volunteer Coordinator for SCC)

Unable to commit weekly but would like to try leading a ride? Ask about being a back-up ride leader on one of the existing rides.

Attention:
Team members needed for
Granite State Wheelmen sustainability study.
"Since its founding in 1971 by three intrepid cycling enthusiasts, the Granite State Wheelmen has become New England's most active adult recreational bicycling club. Through the dedication of many volunteers, GSW promotes safety, education and camaraderie". - GSW website
In fact, the club accomplishes thousands of hours of work every year with only the volunteer efforts of its members and board and the workload is ever increasing and is quickly growing beyond volunteer capabilities. This was a topic of discussion at our most recent board meeting in January and a decision was made to form a team to study the future sustainability of the club.
Four board members; Dave Topham, Judi Hull, Bill Kennedy, and Bob Koehler have volunteered to be part of the team to study options for club sustainability, and we are requesting club members to join the group to share their ideas. Anyone interested is encouraged to contact Dave Topham at GSW-Office@comcast.net.
Please Consider one of the Open Board Positions
As of this update, September 1, it looks like the following GSW Board positions will be open at the upcoming election at Southern NH University in October:
President, Vice President, Recording Secretary, Treasurer, Pedal Talk Editor, and Publicity.
Do any of these responsibilities fit your interests and abilities?
Please contact Dave Topham GSW-Office@comcast.net
Web Publisher's Comment:
I have been web publisher for several years and have found it rewarding to be part of a very active, congenial club. Any new task may seem intimidating at first but there are plenty of friendly members available to help you find your way with new responsibilities. Please consider being part of a very supportive team!
