GSW International Century

In review: International Century Weekend, July 22-23, 2006

The 26th annual International Century Weekend was headquartered at the Cabot Motor Inn, Lancaster, NH. A total of 36 riders participated with about another ten electing not to ride due to the weather or personal issues. Twenty people did the full Century to the Canadian border. A few of them also learned what not to do at the border crossing!

Many participants encountered rain and fog when driving to Lancaster on Friday afternoon. Saturday morning was overcast then the rain started again about 2 p.m. so as to soak many of the Century riders. Showers continued on Sunday morning, this prompting most people to stay dry indoors or head for home. However, the views along the various routes, especially along Vermont Route 102, prompted many favorable comments. Lancaster had finished rebuilding Route 2 on the mile-long hill to the Cabot Motor Inn so the last climb of the day seemed a lot easier than in past years.

Many participants took advantage of the Cabot’s dining facilities for breakfast and dinner on Saturday to socialize and catch up on GSW news. The food was fine but the restaurant was short-staffed, this prompting us to seek breakfast elsewhere on Sunday. Those staying at the motor inn and motel complex had access to the pool, Jacuzzi, fitness room, and showers while all participants visited our display table and facilities in the lower lobby of the motor inn. By noon on Sunday everyone had finished their cycling and headed for home.

Plans are being made to host the 2007 event on July 21-22, again from the Cabot Motor Inn. Please consider joining us in the “Great North Woods” region of NH for an enjoyable weekend of cycling and socializing – and with hopes for better weather next year!
